I’ve been sitting thinking about this since it was MOT’d recently – but as it’s only done just over a thousand mile since the last MOT it really has to go.
So, it’s for sale, 2008 (’08) Gilera GP800. Black 20,700k miles, MOT until April ‘13 and taxed until March ‘13
Owned by me from new and supplied by a leading Hertfordshire dealer gc grin. Full service history - most recently at Walton Road Garage.
Genuine Gilera colour matched topbox, Givi Screen, Melvin Hunter (subtly) lowered and narrowed seat. GPS corrected (legible) MPH speedo markings.
There’s a Small hole in the lower front shield (belly pan area) and the black paint is flaking off the (stainless) exhaust silencer but otherwise it’s cosmetically in the sort of condition you’d expect for a four year old bike which has been ridden in all weathers – sound rather than mint.

hi Terry
i'd like to purchase a gilera GP800 2009 model from a friend, it just have about 2000km on it. But I like to find from you, since you've used yours over 4 yours. What are the postives and negatives of this scooter? Should i go for it? Thanks for your support.
Femi, sorry for the delay in responding, I've been on holiday.
As I said early on in my blog, the one word epithet is effortless. I treated it as an "Executive Express" and it's a role it fills peerlessly. Comfortable, fast, solid handling. Motorways are a joy, very stable at speed, not affected by wind - any speed twist and GO !
Servicing is a bit high - especially that 18,000 mile one - but the other services are more in line with other big scooters.
It's heavy - and long (makes it great under heavy braking if you lock up - either end) and although it's OK in London if you're a real urban warrior, it's not for the faint hearted.
The speedo is pants - worst feature of the bike. The mph readings are illegible to a normal human being but that doesn't really matter as it's chromnically innacurate (an indicated 120mph was a GPS true 107)
The mirrors are useless - too small and in the wrong place (for me at least)
If you have short legs, I'd recommend having the seat narrowed and lowered. The width of the bike makes "paddling" a bit tricky (putting the bum stop forwards helps but that reduces legroom)
Not much underseat space - given that half the engine's there that's not surprising - an inevitable consequence of a big V-twin rather than a fault.
Standard screen is rubbish - reckon on a Givi (just like pretty much every bike ever built IMHO)
Mine has never suffered from the top document issues with GP 800s (and was preventatively fixed at one of the services).
There's a small water hose that can pop off dumping all the coolant - I guess by now any GP800 out there will have had the offending hose clip replaced.
There are some reports of low speed cutting out when on a fraction of throttle (I've experienced it once or twice but it's never bothered me - others have suffered worse). Latest engine management software update should cure it.
Other than that, watch out for tyre availability.
Thanks Terry, I trust you enjoyed your holiday.
I have bought the scooter... very outstanding i must say.
where is the small water hose located, that you said can pop off dumping all the coolant? And can I get it sorted.
What are the preventive fixes I should consider as i ride along with it.
thanks
